MILLET TOUR DU RUTOR EXTREME - French one-two at the Long Distance Team World Championship

French one-two in Planaval. Mathéo Jacquemoud – Samuel Equy and Axelle Mollaret – Emily Harrop are the new ISMF Ski Mountaineering Long Distance Team World Champions. They were crowned at the Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, the only Italian stage of the 2022 La Grande Course. In spite of three days of complicated weather conditions, the Corrado Gex Ski Club trackers were able to offer the 348 athletes representing 15 different nations a major stage with 2340m of vertical gain, with start and finish lines in the small village of Planaval, in Arvier. The stage featured two major ascents and prohibitive temperatures that plummeted to almost -20°C at the top of the Château Blanc (3442m), and then a fresh snow descent of almost 2000m. This is the winning mix of a race, a hard-fought battle, closer than ever. The race, edition after edition, has become myth, tradition, legend.

At the end of three days of epic efforts, the French Mathéo Jacquemoud - Samuel Equy won the World Championship gold medal, crossing the finish line in first place with a final time of 2h18'20". Second place and silver medal for the Italians Davide Magnini - Matteo Eydallin 2h21'11" and third place and the bronze medal went to the other French team William Bon Mardion - Xavier Gachet 2h24'34".

In the women's category, as expected, French athletes Axelle Mollaret - Emily Harrop were successful for the third time in a row. For them, a finish time of 2h51'22" won them the gold medal. Like in the previous stages, the Italian team Giulia Murada - Alba De Silvestro were second over the finish line (2h57'27"). Third in the ranking, but not valid for the World Championship rankings because of their different nationalities, were the Slovakian Marianna Jagercikova and the Polish Iwona Januszyk (3h01'43"). Fourth overall and winner of the bronze medal in the World Championship were the Italians Mara Martini and Ilaria Veronese.


YOUNG RACE: Thomas Magnini, Vanessa Marca among the U16, Marcello Scarinzi, Clizia Vallet in the U18 category and Rémi Cantan, Noemi Junod in the U20 race are the winners of the Tour du Rutor Young course. Today, as yesterday, the youngsters had the opportunity to compete on high mountain tracks. A track was reserved for the 67 skialp rising stars, less hard, but no less spectacular. The U20 (male and female) and the U18 male competed on a course of 1278m of vertical gain (two ascents, as many descents, two sections on foot and a passage on the highest point of the day on the Glacier of Château Blanc at 2850 m). The U18 female and U16 (male and female) instead raced on a course of 900m of vertical gain (two ascents, two descents, a section on foot).

NEXT STOP, PATROUILLE DES GLACIERS:
The circuit featuring the most beautiful races in the Alps and the Cordillera Pirenaica does not stop here. Altitoy Ternua and Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême are in the books, and now La Grande Course points straight to La Patrouille des Glaciers with its alpine course of 57.5 km and 4386 mD+. The 2022 PDG will take place in the night between April 30 and May 1.

The Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, organized by the Corrado Gex Ski Club of Arvier, under the technical direction of the ski mountaineer and mountain guide Marco Camandona, is one of the most spectacular and modern biennial ski mountaineering competitions.
